Multi-year antimicrobial-resistance trends in urine Escherichia coli isolates from both community-based and hospital-based laboratories of an Australian local health district
The incidence of AMR among urinary EC isolates is increasing in hospital and community settings.
Although the rates of resistance were higher in hospital-based setting, the volume of resistant isolates was higher in the community-based laboratory, reflecting the significant number of resistant organisms in the community setting.
There is a need for localised and regional surveillance of AMR that focuses on both the community and hospital settings.
